ISS Crew Shelters in Emergency Capsule as Russian Team Repairs Air Leak
According to reports, NASA temporarily instructed members of its Crew-12 mission to put on spacesuits and take shelter inside a SpaceX Dragon capsule after monitoring systems indicated a potential pressure loss. The measure was described as precautionary while repairs were underway.
Officials from Roscosmos said that two possible leak locations were identified during routine pressure checks in the transfer chamber of the Zvezda service module, a critical section of the ISS. One of the affected areas was reportedly sealed using a specialized material, while work continued on addressing the second site in a different part of the module.
NASA representatives noted that both agencies have been tracking minor structural cracks in the Zvezda segment for some time and have been collaborating to determine the cause of repeated air pressure fluctuations. Following the most recent detection, Roscosmos reportedly initiated a more extensive repair effort.
Reports further indicated that the rate of air loss had increased in recent days, prompting heightened monitoring by mission control teams. Despite the situation, officials emphasized that the response was precautionary and coordinated, with ongoing efforts focused on stabilizing the affected section of the station.
